Exercises to deal with aggressive people

por Felipe Dib

Hello, my friend! How are you? If you're out of time or "in a rush", go to the last paragraph of this text for a fast answer.

In times of immediate responses and connection 24 hours a day, talking about long-term transformation is a risk! But… we believe you can (and must!) dream big, and make a daily effort to get better every day. This is our mission - seeing you speaking English and being a Leader wherever you go. "The 5 Essential People Skills" was written by Dale Carnegie and its goal is to improve your people skills. In other words, to improve your relationships at work and at home.

Last class we learned how to recognize and deal with bad behavior. Today we'll see new strategies to deal with it. "Observe, ask for advice and learn alternative ways of acting. Once you learn the right way to respond, you can be assured that perfect practice will create perfection". How do you start?

Write down the situations you're afraid of. Talk to yourself in front of a mirror as if you were at a real meeting. "Some people will respond in an adverse way. It is your right to stand up for yourself and to assert your individuality". Dale also says you don't have to be assertive 100% of the times, my friend. We want you to be free to choose. Answer the questions below, please:

How do I build rapport?

1- WHen you differ with someone you respect, are you able to speak up and share your own viewpoint?

2- Are you able to refuse unreasonable requests made by coworkers?

3- Do you readily accept positive criticism and suggestion?

4- Do you ask for assistance when you need it?

5- If someone else has a better solution than yours, do you accept it gracefully?

The change starts within us, my friend. Answer the questions above. If the majority of your answers were "yes", you're on your way to an assertive approach to life and your career. Comment your answers here, open yourself to new opportunities and see you next class!
