How do I solve a conflict at work?

"The 5 Essential People Skills" was written by Dale Carnegie and its goal is to improve your people skills. In other words, to improve your relationships at work and at home.

Before solving the conflict itself, you need to get the person's attention, and that's a challenge now with all the gadgets and notifications around. "Your communication must be clear, direct and to the point", says Carnegie. Be assertive, but not aggressive. 

You got the person's attention and your message is clear. "The first step to conflict resolution is full disclosure" and after you do it, follow these 3 steps:

1- Stay calm: be focused in the solution.

2- Encourage communication: ask for people to talk, and listen attentively.

3- Focus on a win-win outcome: commitment comes when people see they'll gain from it.

Have the courage to bring it to the surface and encourage people to talk. Find a way to engage them in the solution and show them how they'll benefit from it. Have you ever had a hard conversation? Comment here and see you next class!
