Hello, my friend (olá, meu amigo). If you have a friend whose friendship you wouldn't recommend to your sister or your father, or your son, why would you have such a friend for yourself? You might say, "out of loyalty" (você pode dizer "por lealdade). Loyalty is not identical to stupidity (lealdade não é idêntica à estupidez). Loyalty must be negotiated fairly and honestly (lealdade deve ser negociada justamente e honestamente). Friendship is a reciprocal arrangement (amizade é um arranjo recíproco). You are not morally obliged to support someone who is making the world a worse place (você não é moralmente obrigado a ajudar alguém que está fazendo do mundo um lugar pior). Quite the opposite (bem o oposto). You should choose people who want things to be better, not worse (você deveria escolher pessoas que querem que as coisas sejam melhores, não piores). It's a good thing not a selfish thing to choose people who are good for you (é uma coisa boa e não egoísta escolher pessoas que são boas para você). It's appropriate and praiseworthy to associate with people whose lives would be improved if they saw your life improved (é apropriado e louvável associar-se a pessoas cujas vidas melhorariam se vissem sua vida melhorada). If you surround yourself with people who support your upward aim they will not tolerate your cynicism and destructiveness (se você se cercar de pessoas que apóiam seu objetivo ascendente, elas não tolerarão seu cinismo e sua destrutividade). They will instead encourage you when you do good for yourself and others and punish you carefully when you do not (em vez disso, eles irão encorajá-lo quando você fizer o bem para si mesmo e para os outros e puni-lo cuidadosamente quando você não o fizer). When you dare to aspire upward you reveal the inadequacy of the present and promise of the future (quando você ousa aspirar ao alto, revela a inadequação do presente e a promessa do futuro).
