The 2 basic elements to manage a team

por Felipe Dib

Hello, my friend! How are you? If you're out of time or "in a rush", go to the last paragraph of this text for a fast answer.

In times of immediate responses and connection 24 hours a day, talking about long-term transformation is a risk! But… we believe you can (and must!) dream big, and make a daily effort to get better every day. This is our mission - seeing you speaking English and being a Leader wherever you go. "The 5 Essential People Skills" was written by Dale Carnegie and its goal is to improve your people skills. In other words, to improve your relationships at work and at home.

Now we start a new chapter where Dale Carnegie teaches us how to maximize assertive curiosity in business. The first element is frequent contact. "Assertive curiosity depends on just a few vital components in the relationship between managers and employees. The most important of these is really very simple - it's frequency of contact".

To make it happen it's necessary to schedule time every week for a meeting (can be individual or in groups). The author says a good time for this to happen is at the start of the workday. "To make these informal meetings successful, it's best to have an agreed-upon topic that's neither too narrow nor too broad". Everyone commits to be on time for the meeting and we keep it a regular practice.

Element 2 is time management. "Without doubt, the single most effective time management tool is for team members to keep logs of how they spend their time each workday". Show your team that this is just a way of exercising healthy curiosity about how things get done.

Meet your team members regularly and help them manage their time better. Show them you care and productivity means growth for everyone. What do you normally do from 8:00 to 9:00 in the morning? Comment here and see you next class!
