The most important Law! What is it?

por Felipe Dib

Hello, my friend! How are you? If you're out of time or "in a rush", go to the last paragraph of this text for a fast answer.

In times of immediate responses and connection 24 hours a day, talking about long-term transformation is a risk! But… at Você Aprende Agora we believe you can (and must!) dream big, and make a daily effort to get better every day. This is our mission - seeing you speaking English and being a Leader wherever you go. "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" was written by John Maxwell in 1998, and its goal is to improve your skills as a Leader.

Last classes we talked about the first 4 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership:

1- Law of the Lid;

2- Law of Influence;

3- Law of Process;

4- Law of Navigation.

Now, my friend, we talk about the most important law of leadership: the Law of Addition. It means you must add value to people's lives if you want to be a successful leader. "The bottom line in leadership isn't how far we advance ourselves but how far we advance others", says John Maxwell. We must serve others, we must add value to the ones around us. How do you do it?

Getting out of your comfort zone is the first step.Think about the greatest leaders you've heard of. How did they get to their position? Maxwell presents 4 ways to add value to other people's lives:

1- By valuing others: effectively leaders go beyond the "not harming others". They intentionally help others and show they care.

2- By being valuable to others: work hard to improve your skills so you can serve others better.

3- By knowing what others value: listen, listen, listen.

4- By doing what God values: yes, my friend! Reach out to people and serve them.

The Law of Addition is the most important law of our lives. No matter how or where we are, serving others is an obligation if you want to be a leader. Start with small acts of service for others without seeking credit for it. Don't wait to be served. Go ahead and serve others first, my friend. Comment here your opinion about it. See you next class!
