Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don't

por Felipe Dib

Hello, my friend (olá, meu amigo). How are you feeling today? (como você está se sentindo hoje?). Welcome back (bem-vindo de volta). Today, Rule #9 (hoje, Regra #9). Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don't (assuma que a pessoa que você está ouvindo pode saber algo que você não sabe). Listening is paying attention (ouvir é prestar atenção). It's amazing what people will tell you if you listen (é incrível o que as pessoas dizem se você escuta). Sometimes if you listen to people they will even tell you what's wrong with them (às vezes se você escuta as pessoas elas irão até dizer o que há de errado com elas). Sometimes they will even tell you how they plan to fix it (às vezes elas irão até dizer a você como elas planejam consertar isso). Sometimes that helps you fix something wrong with yourself (às vezes isto ajuda você a consertar algo em você mesmo). If you listen, without premature judgment, people will generally tell you everything they are thinking and with very little deceit (se você escuta, sem um julgamento prévio, as pessoas geralmente irão dizer a você tudo que elas estão pensando com muito pouco engano). People will tell you the most amazing, absurd, interesting things (as pessoas vão dizer a você as coisas mais incríveis, absurdas e interessantes). Very few of your conversations will be boring (muito poucas das suas conversas serão chatas). So, listen to yourself and to those with whom you are speaking (então, escute a si mesmo e àqueles com quem você está falando). Your wisdom then consists not of the knowledge you already have but the continual search for knowledge, which is the highest form of wisdom (sua sabedoria então consiste não do conhecimento que você já tem, mas da contínua busca por conhecimento, que é a forma mais alta de sabedoria). It is for this reason that the priestess of the Delphic Oracle in ancient Greece spoke most highly of Socrates who always sought the truth (é por esta razão que a sacerdotisa do Oráculo de Delfos na Grécia antiga falou tão bem de Sócrates que sempre buscou a verdade). She described him as the wisest living man because he knew that what he knew was nothing (ela o descreveu como o homem mais sábio porque ele sabia que o que ele sabia não era nada). Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don't (assuma que a pessoa que você está ouvindo pode saber algo que você não sabe). Comment here about someone from your family who is a good listener (comente aqui sobre alguém da sua família que é um bom ouvinte). What are the conversations with this person like? (como são as conversas com esta pessoa?). Why do you like to talk to this person? (por que você gosta de conversar com esta pessoa?). See you next class!
